Healthcare Management Technology
A25200 Degree (Day & Evening)
The Healthcare Management Technology curriculum
is designed to prepare students for employment in healthcare business
and financial operations. Students will gain a comprehensive understanding
of the application of management principles to the healthcare environment.
The curriculum places emphasis on planning, organizing, directing,
and controlling tasks related to healthcare organizational objectives
including the legal and ethical environment. Emphasis is placed
on the development of effective communication, managerial, and
supervisory skills.
Graduates may find employment in healthcare settings including
hospitals, medical offices, clinics, long-term care facilities,
and insurance companies. Graduates are eligible to sit for various
certification exams upon completion of the degree with a combination
of a minimum of two years administrative experience.
Eligible certifications
include, but are not limited to, the Professional Association of
Healthcare Office Managers (PAHCOM), the Healthcare Financial Management
Association (HFMA), the Certified Patient Account Manager (CPAM)
and the Certified Manager of Patient Accounts (CMPA) examinations. |

As the American population ages, this industry
continues to expand, providing opportunities for employees in a
variety of business support functions. The goals of the program
are to provide a solid foundation of managerial knowledge within
the health care industry, combined with the discipline to apply
that knowledge in a professionally competent manner to advance
the health of the local community. |

Course Information |
Major Courses |
Accounting (Degree - 3 courses) - Students learn the
basic principles and procedures of accounting, including collecting,
summarizing, analyzing and reporting financial information, and corporate
and managerial accounting for both external and internal reporting
and decision making.
Business (Degree - 3 courses) - One course in business management
covering the impact of different management practices and leadership
styles. Other business courses include a survey of the business world,
an overview of business financial management, and human resource
management.
Computer Information Technology (Degree -
2 courses) - Topics
include an introduction to computers and computing, and basic spreadsheet
design and development.
Healthcare Management Technology (Degree
- 4 courses) - Topics
include Introduction to Healthcare Management, Medical Insurance,
Long-Term Care Administration, and Healthcare Financial Management.
Marketing & Retailing (Degree - 1 course) - This course introduces
principles and problems of marketing goods and services.
Medical Assisting (Degree - 1 course) - This course is designed
to develop coding skills.
Office Systems Technology (Degree - 3 courses) - Topics include
medical terms and medical legal issues.

Electives (Degree - 2 courses) - Accounting students are required to take 3-credit-hour humanities/fine arts course and a 3-credit-hour social/behavioral science course.
English (Degree - courses) - These courses emphasize the writing process and professional communication skills.
Math ( Degree - 1 course) - Survey of topics including sets, logic, probability, statistics, matrices, mathematical systems, geometry, topology, mathematics of finance, and modeling.
