Around 800 skilled volunteers and 2,500 non-skilled volunteers helped build a new house for the Creasey family of Lexington as part of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" recently. The episode, with a local pre-show, will air on Sunday, Jan. 31, at 7 p.m. on ABC 45. Photos by Spencer Reudelhuber, Randolph Community College photo student.

Spencer Reudelhuber of Lexington, a second-year Photographic Technology student at Randolph Community College, had an "extreme" experience during his internship at John West Photography in Cary, N.C., during the fall semester.

Spencer was tapped to take "behind-the-scenes" photos for the television show "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition." Spencer spent several days and nights taking over 9,500 images of the process of building a new home in Lexington for William and Tricia Creasey and their three young daughters. Tricia Creasey is battling stage 4 cancer.

ABC was in town recently to interview Spencer and the builder, Hedrick Creative Building of Lexington, for the show, which is scheduled to air on ABC (Channel 45) at 7 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 31. A special show with local interviews will air from 7-8 p.m. with the "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" regular show at 8 p.m. The interviews took place in the Bob Timberlake Gallery in Lexington.

"It was really interesting," said Spencer, about the experience. "You get to see people from all walks of life come together." Spencer said around 800 skilled volunteers and 2,500 non-skilled volunteers helped complete the project.

Spencer learned of the opportunity through his father, who works for Wynncom of Lexington, which developed the Web site, www.hedrickextreme.com. He was able to include the hours devoted to the Extreme Makeover project in his internship, which involved a lot of documentary work for John West Photography. "I shot a football game, a protest in Raleigh, and corporate business parties," said Spencer of some of his other work for John West.

Spencer said he wants to work in a commercial photography environment after his graduation next summer. He is currently looking for an internship somewhere in the Western states for his spring cooperative work experience scheduled for March through May.
